I Attended BYU for 2 yrs; served a 2 yr mission in New York for the LDS Church; came home and married my High School Sweetheart Dec 1963, Shirley Kaye Crum; BYU for another year; attended U of Wash Dental School for 4 yrs; went into the Army Dental Corp in theFall of 68 and was a DDS at Fort Eustis, VA for 2 years. Moved to Pasco in 1970 and have been here ever since. We have 8 children, 1 daughter and 7 sons. Our last son was born on Shirley's 41st birthday. All of our sons are Eagle Scouts and went on 2 yr LDS missions. Our 22nd Grandchild was born Sept 2, 09. We have 14 grandsons and 8 granddaughters. I love dentistry and am still working 4 days a week. I have 2 sons that are DDS and 4 nephews that are. Because of my profession, Shirley has been able to be at home to function full time as a mother and wife. I was a Bishop in the Church, worked in Scouting for about 50 years. I have worked with the Cavalcade of Bands for 20 or so years(lost track of the # of yrs.) We have lived at the same 3 1/2 acres for almost 35 years watching housing going up all around us.
For the past 8 yrs I work every Friday morning(5-1) in the LDS Temple here in the Tri-Cities and really enjoy it. In my profession I am abt the only DDS that accepts adult medicaid coupons in the area and so I treat lots of them. I consider it a mini mission. Shirley has some joints(knees and Hips) that bother her and limits us going on a full time mission. What a wonderful Wife and Mother she has been and is.

50 years gone by - How the time does fly - hard to believe. After graduation I went to Beauty College and then worked in Prosser. I got married the summer of 1961. My husband Charley got drafted and we left for the Army Sept. 1961. We traveled a while, courtesy of the Army. While in the Army we decided to buy a farm in Bickleton, WA (which I still own). After the Army tour we moved back to Bickleton in 1963 and built our home on the wheat farm. Our oldest daughter was born in 1964 and the second daughter was born in 1967. Charley and I were married 6 1/2 years when he lost his life in a work related accident. (The girls were only 4 years old and 4 months old). I was a widow for 8 years. In September 1976 I married an old school friend Russ Krumsick (Russ graduated in 1961) and added 2 stepchildren to our family. We have been married for 32 years now. I have 1 granddaughter who just turned 15 years old and 4 step grand children, ranging in age from 8 to 17 years old. I was very fortunate to have two great men in my life. We do enjoy camping in our 5th wheel RV now. Have you found out yet that it's kind of scary to be on medicare? It does funny things to you some times (ha ha)!

50 years is a long time to summarize. It started with nursing school in Portland where I met and married Sam Parker. We celebrate 48 years in October. There followed four kids of whom we are very proud, and six grandchildren-lots of fun.
I worked parttime in various facilities while raising the kids, and then worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oregon for over 14 years and through many mergers. After retirement I worked for them for another 8 years each spring to do a required medical records survey. I have lots of friends from the Blue Cross years and loved it.
After family, friends and church, where I assist the minister, lead singing, and put together an Advent Devotional booklet each year, my great love is singing. In 1994 I was fortunate to audition for Dr. Jonathan Griffith, a professor in the music department at Marylhurst College here in the Portland area, who was slated to be the resident conductor at Carnegie Hall in NYC. I have been blessed to sing in choirs with him at the helm 4 or 5 times at Carnegie Hall and on trips to Spain, France, Italy, and this past July in China where we did concerts in Beijing and Shanghai.

Dan and I got married in October of 1959. We had our first daughter, Danette, in Sunnyside while waiting for Dan to get orders for the Navy.
When Danette was 4 months old we were shipped to Berkeley, California. While in Berkeley we had our second daughter, Sheri.
I got a typewriter for a graduation present and never thought I'd put it to use but I almost wore it our typing all of Dan's college papers and his Ph.D. dissertation. Sure could have used a computer back then!
We were then stationed in Hawaii. Of course we loved our stay there. We lived across the street from the beach and could see Waikiki in the distance. Planes and ships always went by.
We had our third daughter, Suzanne, in Hawaii in 1973. We moved to Bend, Oregon in 1981. We love Oregon and love going to the coast. Our current pictures on here are from 2008 and 2009 trips.
Danette and her husband live in Mississippi. She is a GS-12 with the IRS.
Sheri has retired from the Army and lives with her son and daughter in Kansas.
Suzanne got married in 2006. The couple spent their second anniversary in Paris last year. Suzanne is a published author. Her books are listed under Suzanne Burns at www.amazon.com

Movita and I got married on October 30, 1959. I joined the Navy in November of 1959.
We lived in California for eight years, starting in Berkeley and moving down the coast. While in Oxnard, California, I got my high school diploma by going to night school.
While we were in Long Beach I spent a year on the USS Yorktown. That was quite an experience. We were the first ship on the scene when the USS Pueblo was taken. We went to Japan, the Phillipines, Hong Kong and watched the war off the fantail of the ship off the coast of Vietnam.
We were then transferred to Hawaii for 13 years. While there, I got my A.A, B.A, two Masters degrees and my P.h.D. (all by going to night school).
I also ran marathons and paddled canoe. I had to do something with 5 women in the house--Movita, 3 daughters and a mother-in-law.
I retired from the Navy in 1981 and we moved to Bend, Oregon. I got a job with Tektronix in Redmond. Retired from Tek in 1996 then went back to work at a company called Mini Mitter. I retired for the third time in 2006. Now I really don't know how I ever had time to work.

Since graduation I have served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in October 1981 with the rank of an E-6 Tech. Sgt. My title was a "Diet Therapy Specialist", which was a dining hall supervisor. Ater I retired from the Air Force I worked as a head cook in a 150 bed nursing home here in Spokane for six years. After a short break I worked for a food service contractor at Fairchild Air Force Base for about ten years. When the contract ended we were all let go. I then got a job with a recycling company working in their plastics division for almost ten years. In June of 2006 after having back surgery I decided to retire completely.
I have been married twice. The first time for just over twenty years and the second time will be for twenty three years in June of this year. I have three children total. Two from the first marriage and the third one is from my wife's second marriage. I adopted him when he was eight year old. He is thirty now. Right now altogether we have five children total, nine grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, all of which are doing fine and in good health.
My hobbies are camping, fishing, boating, golfing, playing pool and making things in my small wood shop at home.
I have been a member of the American Legion, Post #9 for the past three years. Within all of the Veterans organizations here in Spokane we have an internal unit known as the "Spokane Area Veterans Honor Guard". This unit attends any veteran's funerals and performs all military honors due them. This includes a ritual, flag folding, rifle salute and pall bearers, if requested. We all feel that this service is well deserved by our fallen veterans retired or active duty.
I hope this is not too long, but after fifty years of little or no contact with other classmates for one reason or another I hope you understand.
I also hope to see you and the entire class of 1959 S.H.S. in September.

I joined the US Coast Guard immediately after high school along with Mike Herndon. I remained in the Coast Guard for 4 years, getting out in 1963. In November of '63 I married my first wife Kay, and we celebrated our 45th anniversary in November of 2008.
From 1963 to 1985 I was in the tire business in Sunnyside. In 1985 I moved to the Bellevue area and built apartment communities until 1990. From 1990 until 2003 was Regional Service Manager for a R.E.I.T., Archstone-Smith.
I retired in 2003 and moved to a frontier area called Usk, WA., along with Kay. We are blessed to live in a beautiful area on 20 acres along with wildlife right on the Pend Oreille River. We enjoy watching deer, elk, moose, eagles, waterfowl and fishing on the river.
We have 2 sons. Kurt is a Lt. on the Spokane Fire Dept. and has a daughter (19) and son (16) who live in Elk, WA., which is close to us. Craig is a Lt. Col. in the Air Force and at present is stationed at McGuire AFB in New Jersey. He and Teresa have 2 sons. 4 and 7.
I find retirement is the best job I have ever had.

After high school, I attended Yakima Valley College and earned an AA majoring in math. I met my husband in the YVC TUB and married in 1961. We moved to Seattle for a short time then returned to Yakima and attend a quarter of business classes. Finals were Dec 16th and son Troy Jr was born Dec 27th.
In April,1962, we moved to Houston, TX. I worked for Uncle Ben's Rice Company in the Accounting Dept. At that time, pregnant employees were fired after 6 months of pregnancy, so after my daugher Denise was born, I was hired by Carnation Company and was there for 5 years. We then moved back to Yakima for my husband to complete his BA degree in Physics at Central Washington Univ.
I was employeed by Tree Top in Selah in the accounting dept for 5 years.
After Troy got his degree in 1971, we moved to Kennewick for 9 months. Since there were more unemployed physicist than employed, he managed an electronics warehouse.
We returned to Yakima for a job opportunity, and I returned to college and commuted to Central Wa College in Ellensburg. Since I knew everything about accounting after working as a bookkeeper for 9 years, I changed my major to accounting. Of course I soon learned that I knew next to nothing about accounting. My first two quarters of accounting surpassed all that I knew from my on-the-job experience.
During my junior year, I worked part-time for Tree Top doing special projects.
At the beginning of my senior year, my husband became allergic to his job as a hop chemist, and returned to college for an accounting degree. I began working fulltime for Tree Top and attended college part time.
After I received my BS in Accounting, I worked 5 years for the Washing State Auditor's Office auditing municipal corporations, which included cities, counties, special purpose districts, etc.
in Yakima, Kititas, and Klickitat counties.
Sunnyside School District was one of my audits.
I then worked 9 months for the City of Yakima as Budget Analyst, 12 years with Yakima Health District as Business Manager, and 12 years as Grant Accountant for Yakima County Human Services.
I retired in October 2007 and began RVing full-time. 3 weeks later my husband was diagonosed with cancer, completed chemotherapy, and three weeks later unexpectidly passed away June 2008.
Since we had traveled in all of the states west of the Missippi river on my husband's Harley mortorcycle, we were going to go east in our motorhome. Plans have changed. I am now trying to decide what to do with the next chapter of my life.
I have continued Rving, spending August 2008 through May 2009 in various RV resorts and campgrounds from Washington through California.
See you in Sunnyside where my home will be at the Prosser RV Park.

In May 1959 I graduated from Sunnyside High School. In July 1959 I went to work in Idaho, where I became a camp counselor at Camp Easter Seal, now known as Camp Larson, under the direction of Roger E. Larson, now deceased.
From then I drifted around and got a job with Goodwill Industries which didn't work out.
In l962, I was back in Sunnyside where I sold bedding plants. In l963, I opened an eight by sixteen foot shop where I sold fruits and flowers until l965, after which I sold only candy and soda pop. In l975 I closed the shop pending a land purchase offer which didn't pan out. My job overlapped because I sold Watkins products door to door from l967 to l978. Afterwards I semi-retired.
Now I'm completely retired as of 2009.

Life after leaving SHS began for me in 1964 when, with diploma in hand from Western Washington University, I was hired by Lee Colby and returned to Sunnyside to begin my teaching career. A stop that my wife (Juanita Hoff) and I pictured as lasting a couple of years eventually turned into thirty years with the district and another fifteen with the state activities association as the director of student activity programs here in Central Washington. I try to stay active as a member of several Boards and Commissions around the state and am currently finishing my last year as a member of the city council here in Sunnyside ( I am still searching for the guy who talked me into that one) but that which I most enjoy in my waning years is watching my nine grandchildren grow up and prepare to "get after it" in the real world. Look forward to seeing everyone at the 50th.

After graduating from high school, I had no desire to attend a four year college and instead elected to attend a business school in Spokane.
After living in Spokane five years, I then moved to Seattle--which I still consider my home. After I got married, I spent the next years working and then raising two great kids. After they were in grade school, I decided I wanted to go back to school and obtain a degree. I attended the University of Washington and received degrees in Nutrition and Chemistry. Fourteen years ago we moved to Arizona, and I might add I went kicking and screaming, however, it was a good move for my husband.
I've spent most of my time in Arizona substitute teaching, primarily at the high school level--limiting the classes I sub to English, science and special education. It has been very challenging, to say the least. Since we plan to move back to the Pacific Northwest, this past February we bought some property on Whidbey Island and hope to build there in the very near future. I miss my kids, family, friends and two super grandsons.
My favorite pastime is reading! I joined a book club a number of years ago and now read at least three books a week--sometimes more.
I wish I could be at the reunion but I will be at my grandson's 11th birthday party in Seattle--something I look forward to every year. Juanita, you did a superb job designing the website!!

Gosh, where to begin after fifty years. I left Sunnyside in the fall of 1959 and made the trek to Cheney (EWU) earning my Educational degree in 1962. I began my teaching career as a kindergarten teacher in Spokane Valley that same year. While attending Eastern I had met Bud Kinzer and we married soon after my first year of teaching. With his degree completed we moved to his home town, Walla Walla where we still reside today in the same home that we built shortly after returning to his "roots". Oh, we have added on and remodeled many times over those many years but the address is still the same.
I continued to teach five more years in the Walla Walla public schools before 'retiring' to spend time at home when our children were young. We have three children, one girl and two boys, and when they were ready to begin pre school I helped out, first by substituting, and then eventually taught my own classes. Bud teased me about my full time job of two half days a week, but it was perfect for me! I loved it and ended up staying there for 36 years!! Bud retired from education as a middle school principal in 1992 and began a commercial/residentual paint contracting business, which he is still involved in today, but as we get a bit older he is becoming much more selective in what he does.
Fifteen years ago I reluctantly let him talk me into taking up the game of golf. At first it seemed like 4 hours on a golf course was just silly especially when I had other things I needed to be doing, but it wasn't long before I was finding myself, much to Bud`s amazement, enjoying the game very much. Now we golf together at least a couple of times a week and I often spend another couple of days playing with my girl friends! We have been in Walla Walla for so long and are fortunate to have many very close special friends who share many of the same interests that we do.
I love working in our yard, but only work when the sun shines!!! I have many, many roses and flowers that require much of my time, but I do enjoy it so. I also am an avid reader and often wish there were more hours in a day to relax and read a good book.
We are blessed with five darling grandchildren, 4 boys and I girl, who range in age from 3 1/2 to 9 years of age. Unfortunately none of them live near here, but we do make visiting them a very high priority in our lives as they are so much fun to be around. We have found that grandparenting is an amazing thing.
All in all we have been very fortunate in our lives. We love Walla Walla and its bustling new wine industry. We even took the plunge a few years ago and are now bonifide shareholders of Forgeron Winery and have even become semi expert with the crush and bottling each year.
In a nutshell that is our life. I am so looking forward to seeing all of you in Sept!

It is amazing how the time has flown! Thanksgiving of this year I will be celebrating forty eight years of marriage (yes to the same guy), will be attending my fiftieth high school class reunion and can count four children and nine grandchildren in the mix. I began my “professional life” as the first para educator with the Sunnyside School District in 1966, a position I held for twelve years. During those years I wore many hats, school employee, mother and college student, all culminating in 1979 when I received my elementary teaching certificate and was hired by the Sunnyside School District where I taught for twenty five years, retiring in 2004. Since then my life has become extremely less complicated, I enjoy my yard and flowers, am committed to yoga, walking with a friend and have begun to play golf, and still find time to relax on occasion with a good book. I love being home! I guess my biggest stress issue now is keeping track of which grandchild has which activity on which night. I am very content and thankful for the life I now lead and am excited about visiting with old friends in September.
Hope to see as many classmates as possible at our next reunion, September 14,2024

Graduated from WSU in spring of 1965 with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree. Worked in various architectural offices in Spokane, San Francisco and Seattle for 15 years. Last office was NBBJ Architects in Seattle where managed the teams that designed several large projects which included the Kingdome and Rainier Square. In 1997 I went to work for a real estate developer and have been involved in the development of large commercial projects ever since, including low and high rise office buildings, condominiums and shopping centers. Currently have two office buildings under construction in Bellevue, WA.
Thinking about retirement but can't decide what to do with the rest of my life.
I met my wonderful wife in 1962. We were married in 1964 and this August we will celebrate our 45th anniversary. We have lived in Spokane, Seattle, San Francisco, Remond, WA., and now in Duvall since 2000. We have two great kids, and three wonderful grandkids. We love to travel, eat good food, and spend time in the summer at Priest Lake in northern Idaho.

Wow!! 1959 seems so long ago and maybe because it is. As is the case with all of you a lot has happened in 50 years. For me, after graduation I continued my very “lucrative” employment with Lee Seamons while attending YVC with certain of my friends from Sunnyside. Needless to say very little was accomplished in those first post high school years academically hanging with that bunch.
From there I matriculated to Western Washington University and shortly thereafter I married Ardythe Shaw ( former Sunnyside gal). I began my career in business in 1965 when I was hired by the Bon Marche Corporation. Stayed with those folks until 1969 when I was fortunate enough to begin my long relationship with the Nordstrom Corporation. The rest they say is history, I retired in 1997 as the Co-Chairman of Nordstrom.
Today we live in Woodway, north of Seattle, enjoy our son Jeff, our two dogs, Indy and Dudley, our home and yard, rekindling old friendships with my buddies from high school, golf, the Mariners and the occasional “Makers Mark” in the evening with family and friends.
Both AJ and I are looking forward to our gathering in September in Sunnyside. This is going to be a lot of fun.

After graduation, I attended beauty school in Seattle and later in Yakima. While in Seattle, I met my future husband (Larry) who was in the Navy at the time. After he was discharged, we were married 6 months later in 1962 and settled in Longview where he worked for Weyerhaeuser and attended Lower Columbia College. Two years later, while in Longview, our son (David) was born and two years later our daughter (Connie) was born. In 1967, Larry transferred to WSU and in 1969 graduated with a degree in forestry. He accepted a position with the Oregon Dept of Forestry and we moved first to Astoria, OR, a year later near Roseburg, OR and 2 years later to Forest Grove, OR where we reside today. After our children were in high school, I worked at the Washington County Court House in Hillsboro for 10 years. We are both retired at this time and have enjoyed traveling to most of the national parks and points of interest in the western U.S., Hawaii, Florida, New York and New England.

It’s been a fast 50 year run, but a darn good one!
I have two wonderful daughters, Debbie a Recruiter at Yakima Memorial Hospital, and Denise a teacher at Barge Lincoln Elementary, in the Yakima School District. I am happy to have the time to really enjoy being “Papa” to three good-looking, quick-witted and fun-loving grandsons, ages 4, 7, and 9. (Who will I ride the bumper cars with when they get too old?)
The last 42 years I have been fortunate to have a successful career with Prudential. This has provided me the ability to travel quite a bit not only for business but also with family and great life-long friends.
I still enjoy my motorcycle although lately I probably spend more time washing it than I do riding it!
When I was young I was called a “young man in a hurry”. Strange, I haven’t heard that in a long time. However, if anyone says “Trip...” I’m ready to go!

At the end of my senior year I saw Carla Marion walking down the hall in front of Cora Harms typing class. She was a sophomore and for some reason that was the first time that I had really noticed her. We dated for the rest of the summer and I then left for the U of W. We were engaged two years later on the night of her graduation and married a year later. During our next 14years we moved 17 times as we completed college and experienced the NFL. During that time our three sons were born. Upon retirement from the NFL (after 12 years) Carla and I wanted to raise our family in an environment similar to the one that we were raised in. We decided to move back to the Northwest and we settled in Selah, Washington. I was hopeful that I could continue my athletic career in coaching, but for whatever reason I ended up in management. I had the wonderful opportunity of leading three different companies over a period of 25 years. I retired in 2002. I am grateful for a fulfilled life, for eternal hope and a secure future. My trust is in my Heavenly Father who is always with me and is the light of my life.

Wonderful Site!! Thanks for all your hard work!!
Let's see, what have I been doing for 50 yrs?? Left SSide after Graduation. Moved to Sidney, Mont. (where maternal family was). Met hubby, Del at youth group, married Mar 62. Had 1st child Aug 63, moved to Tri-Cities in 65 (to be near a gramma, for Tami), and better work opportunities. Was a stay at home (for the most) and raised our 4 children. worked at a couple of banks for a few yrs. Had a home daycare business for 9 yrs. We owned and operated our own Door installation and remodeling business for 9 yrs. During some of those yrs, we decided we had enough talent between us to design and build our own home. So w did. First built a cabin in the Blue Mtns. then built 3 homes. I layed out, designed and decorated, and he was the master hands on builder. we lived in them, and sold each after a few yrs. Later yrs, took us to Spokane for 6 yrs, while Del was employed at EWU, as a construction Coordinator. 3 yrs ago, we moved back to Tri-Cities (God's wonderful sunny country) to retire. We have 9 grandchildren (all over the country) and one Great-grand-girl in Hawaii. Now I just enjoy taking care of my flowers, and playing pinochle or sequence with who ever I can get to play. Life Changes!!
Looking forward to seeing you all at the 50th

Life has been good to me these last 50 years. I Married in 1960 to James Terrill who was in the Marine Corp. We had one son and took in foster children. We enjoyed being in the Marines and traveled a lot around our United States. When we retired from the Marines after 20 yrs we moved to Auburn Washington. Jame went to work in Kent and retired a second time. I worked part time around the area for a while and then went to work for Jeld-wen Windows & Doors. I've been with the company now for 22 years. I love working and plan to stay for a while yet. Our one son lives close by with his family and we enjoy our 3 grandaughters very much. They are in age from 16 to 23, and all single for the moment. James is now working part time for Rescue Rooter, so we both stay busy. We have a home in Algona not far from the super mall. So shopping can be fun. We have two dogs and one cat, a garden and lawn to keep us busy. We don't move as fast as we once did so everything takes longer to do. I come to Sunnyside to see my Mom as often as I can as she is living in Sun Terrace and is doing great. She is so active for her age of 96. We hope to see everyone in September. We always have the coffee on and a spare bed so feel free to come and visit us any time your in the area.

I graduated from Washington State University with an Elementary Education degree (career consisted mainly of volunteering in the schools and church over the years, finally working for the school district as secretarial support after the boys were grown). I married John Guderian who worked for US Customs in several areas over his career. We lived in Seattle, Calexico CA, Los Angeles CA, Virginia outside Washington DC and finally 23 years in Bellevue where we raised our family of 3 boys. In 1997 we moved to Arizona and the senior retirement community of Sun Lakes which we love!

Glad to be an "honorary" grad of sunnyside! After High School & 2 years of college, I work in the grocery business for 10 years. I bought a retail boat store and for the next 25 years I had dealerships in Southern California, and manufactured Custom High Performance Boats. I started a new career at age 44 with New York Life Insurance Co. During that time I found myself "single" for the third time. I found out from my mother, Donna's phone number in Kelso. After frequent flyer miles to visit her, I convinced her to come to California and marry me! My father at age 87, married us in my son's back yard! In 2006 when we retired, I kept my promise to Donna to return to Washington where her kids and grandkids are! God is good! We are blessed

I never left Sunnyside. Larry & I had 4 children, 12 grandchildren (3 adopted) Larry died after 46 years of marriage. I now have 6 great-grandchildren.
While we were raising our family I worked as a meatwrapper and meatcutter for Safeway. Larry worked a a mechanic and eventually bought the business from his boss. He retired in 1999. I worked for a time at St. Vincent De Paul Thrift store after retirement. We also had a Country-Western trio that played some of the local private clubs in the area. (Retired from that is 1979) I still play saxophone for my own enjoyment and at church. Hopefully it enjoyed by most there also.
I now spend my time running a small backyard retail nursery. In the last 4 years I have driven to Alaska to visit a son and family. Also drove cross country to drive the Natchez Trace Parkway Historical Highway. Lots of fun. Travelled with a dog and no one else. Very good company and never argued with me.
I'm adding this bio because I was cajoled into it. I don't like to toot my own horn (pun intended)

50 years...who can remember it all? I was fortunate enough to stumble into a job the summer after Graduation. Graveyard shift at Del Montes can manufacturing plant in Toppenish. I stuck it out for four years fulltime plus fulltime at college and graduated with a degree in Education in May of 1963. Started teaching in Grandview Jr. High, on to Longview HS and then to assistant professor at Portland State U for a couple of years. A desperate Assistant Superintendent recruited me to be a high school principal which entertained me for 5 years.
I switched gears for a 7 years and became a Director of Human Resources for a couple of International Certified Public Accounting firms. I finally decided to return to Education and had saved enough money to buy several Sylvan Learning Center franchises. Many years later I moved back to a small town in Oregon as the Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and finance.
In 1996 I retired, sold everything, bought a 38 ft. live aboard boat and left for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. 6 years of bliss fishing, golfing and relaxing. Returned to the States in 2002 and moved to Carlton, WA in the Methow valley. I live one mile from Carlton on the river. Carlton has 60 residents, a million deer and lots of mountains.
I still hunt, fish, horseback ride, read, travel, camp and enjoy my grand children. At our 45th class reunion I ran into Deanna Duncan and we have been together ever since.
Looking forward to seeing everyone and having some serious fun!!!!

After graduation I had no desire to go to college but I never wanted to stop learning. I moved to Yakima in August, 1959, worked for an insurance company and lived in an apartment with two girlfriends. In 1963 I met and married Bob Lovitt of Coeur d’Alene, ID who was a pharmacist with PayLess Drugs in Yakima. Through all the buyouts he stayed with the same company until he retired the end of 2005. We moved around for awhile living in the western states. In Pendleton, OR we learned to love professional rodeo. In 1975 I went to work as a legal assistant for what I thought would be four months and I stayed 8 years because it was fun. When we moved back to Yakima in 1983 I became a paralegal. I retired in 1986 when our daughter turned 14 and our son was almost 12 --- too old for child care and too young to be left with a swimming pool and no adult supervision. I loved the legal field but have never missed working in it. It was through that experience that I had the opportunity to co-author a book for law offices (now outdated and out of print) called Handbook for Legal Secretaries.
We moved to Utah the summer our son graduated from high school and Bob became a pharmacy district manager for PayLess Drugs based in Salt Lake City. It was there we found that we loved the NBA. Utah is where I earnestly wrote for publication and also wrote Bible studies that I taught at our church. For the next several years I made the rounds as a speaker at women’s retreats, women’s meetings and other church gatherings. I still write Bible studies to teach but don’t feel called to do much public speaking.
We’ve always said that “some day” we’d move to Hayden Lake in North Idaho and we did that in 1998 and promptly fell in love with Gonzaga Basketball. We built a home overlooking the back side of Hayden Lake less than a mile from the lakefront summer cabin we’ve owned for many years. We lived on 60 acres bordered by U. S. Forest timber. Unfortunately, we only owned five of those 60 acres. WHERE I am was never as important as the PERSON I am. All those years of moving state to state didn’t challenge my sense of who I was because of what was in my heart. Some of you undoubtedly understand that.
Bob and I share our faith, our lives, our peace of mind, two children (one of each) and six grandchildren (three of each). Our family is the heartbeat of my life. Bob and I are voracious readers and I continue to write. I’ve learned that I need a good cup of coffee, a comfortable bed, and unlimited power. (grin) Today I can say that my biggest fear is waking up in ten years still the same woman I am today. I have a sense of urgency about reading all the books I own. I should be able to manage that if I live to be 120. There are days when I have outlived my own memory but overall life is good. Middle-age has crept up on me (I cannot tell a lie), although I think I’m still 35 years old; but, my body can’t fool a flight of stairs. After all these years together Bob and I still make each other laugh.

I have been keeping busy. Off next week to speak at a Garden Show along with Paul James, HGTV “Gardening By the Yard”. My topic is “Worms”, composting worms that is. Turn your junk mail, kitchen waste, newspaper and cardboard into nutrient rich compost for your house plants and garden.
In my spare time I have been scanning B&W negatives, hundreds of them from the 50’s in Sunnyside.
Go to: http://www.flickr.com/photos/39741265@N06/ then to Sets.
After graduating from Seattle Pacific College, I taught school in Aumsville and Canby Oregon. In 1967, we moved to Camp Meeker CA, where I managed Alliance Redwoods Camp and developed an outdoor education program. Four years later, we moved to Pleasant Hill, CA and taught in the Mount Diablo School District.
While attending Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, I organized a 100 family food buying group in the days before Costco. There were 10 groups of 10 families; each group was responsible for a food commodity. Big trucks of: frozen foods, cases of orange juice, bakery goods, 5 gal pails of brownie mix, cheese in 40 lbs blocks, would unload in garages and within hours the goods were all distributed. These were very affluent folks and they purchased nearly all their food thru our buying group. It was quite amazing and operated for over 6 years.
I began teaching a class “How to live on less and enjoy it” in the adult education night school. The only requirement, the teacher must maintain at least 12 students for the full 8 weeks. I always had at least 40 and no one ever drops out. I was an invited guest on KGO radio talk show several times as a result.
My fourth grade classes were known for their field trips. Over the 6 years, my classes camped in Yosemite, toured the Gold fields, Sutter Fort, road BART on the opening day with 35 4th graders, but the most memorable was a two night outing at Fort Point, a civil war fort under the Golden Gate Bridge, two days before school started. You should have seen the other 4th grade classes as our bus was unloaded at school.

We still live in Vancouver, WA - same house for 31 years now. We spend some time in our 5th wheel trailer, and I still ride my Goldwing motorcycle when I get a chance. Our 26th family reunion was held this year; if we were all able to attend there would be 32 of us. We have 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. God has given us many friends and family, and we are thankful for all we have. I hope to be at the reunion this year.
_________________________________________
From 2009:
I moved from Lynden, WA in 1956. It was culture shock coming from a small town, small farm and a small Christian school to a large (to me) public school, and living in town. Those weren’t my best years, but that doesn’t mean that nothing good came from them.
A month after graduation, I was engaged to Rose Marie Gortsema (SHS), then left for six months active duty with the Army Reserve. We were married in September 1960. In August 1961 I enlisted in the Regular Army, spending three years in Minneapolis/St. Paul. I got out in 1964, and we moved with our three kids to Lynden. I reenlisted in 1965 and decided to I needed to pick something and stay with it – so I did.
Assignments included Cheney, WA, Fort Bliss, TX, and three years at Fort Richardson, AK. When I went to Vietnam in 1970, Rose and the kids moved back to Sunnyside. In 1971 we were at Fort Lewis, WA, then I requested ROTC duty and was assigned to EWSC in Cheney. This time we stayed four years, and the last year and a half I was a full time student. I graduated with a BA in Business in December 1975 – compliments of the Army (and your tax dollars).
Next was Fort Carson, CO, then in 1977 to Heidelberg, Germany. In 1980 I attended the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, Texas, then on to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, CA (Barstow area), where I retired with 20 years active service in February 1982.
I worked as the Personnel Manager of a photo processing company in Burbank, CA, then as the manager of a U-Haul Center in the Spokane valley. In 1985 I became a Farmers Insurance agent in Spokane, and three years later accepted their offer to work as a commercial insurance underwriter in the Vancouver, WA regional office. I completed 20 years with Farmers and retired in 2005.
We are proud of our son and two daughters, all living productive lives, with families of their own, and scattered (Oregon, California, Colorado). There are eight grands (ages from 14 – 27) and three greats (ages 4 – 8).
We’ve lived in 33 different homes since we got married, but have been in this house for almost 21 years. We have an attached shop for hobbies. We have a travel trailer and like to travel and camp. I have a Honda Goldwing motorcycle that we (well, mostly I) enjoy riding, and have been as far as Hyder, Alaska, and Cabo San Lucas, Baja, Mexico. We attend New Heights Church in Vancouver and are involved with groups on Sunday as well as a mid-week Bible study. This past March and April we traveled to Port Arthur, TX with our trailer to do hurricane (Rita and Ike) restoration work through a church group for three weeks – very rewarding.
Through all of our activities, ups, downs, good and bad, we realize that there is only one thing that matters in the end – it’s our relationship with our Creator. Based on our own efforts, we all fall short of God’s standards, but by God’s grace he paid the price for our salvation by sending his Son, Jesus, to die in our place. If we accept his sacrifice and trust Him, we will have eternal life. So, while we may be getting along in years in this life, there’s another, better life to come, and it will never end. If you don’t yet know Jesus, I encourage you to look for Him.

I had a life changing experience in "l972" - I became a born again (saved) Christian. Have spent my life growing closer to my Lord and Savior. Have been very active in our church and I would say without a doubt this is the most important part of my existence. I have an eternal perspective on everything - that we'll all pass away one day soon and only our relationship with Jesus will save us, that where He is, is where I will spend eternity.
I was married in "l959" - have remained married to the same wonderful man going on "50" years in August, worked for several years in Medical Records and as Admission director in two Convalescent Centers in Seattle WA. My husband worked at Group Health Hospital in Seattle until retirement, over 40 years. He was a physician assistant (probably the first one in the country!) We have lived a quiet life style.
Note: If there is anyone wishing to talk to me about Jesus Christ, feel free to contact me, because I love to tell of His love and goodness and what He means to me and how He came into my life.
Thanks for the opportunity to share my life with all of you!

Its hard to think of 50 years have gone by all ready. So many changes in every ones lives.
Dick and I got married June 17, 1961. Our 50th anniversary is in two years.
Dick worked for the Washington State Patrol for 36 years. We decided with his shift work all the time that I would stay home and raise the kids which was a honor for me. We had Karen and Dean. Karen and husband Kevin have no children. Dean and his first wife had two wonderful girls. Dean is married to Tammy and she is a treasure.
Dick and I lived in Yakima for a number of years and then he transfered to Vancouver. After retirement this has been our home. He also worked for IQ Credit Union for 7 years after retiring.
For many years we led classes for Lets Celebrate Marriage through our church. We also led the retreats. This was a great time for us and to see the changes in couples.
We have been involved in Columbia River Old Time Strings for about 13 years, the last five as Dick being president and I am treasure. We enjoy this club very much and like to encourage people to come and play their instruments and have fun.
We are looking forward to coming to the reunion.

I would like to say that I am married to the best husband on earth but it seems that everyone else is married to "the best" so I will just say he is the second best, but he is the best for me!
I got married after hi school and had 3 girls, my ex- husband was in the Air Force so we did some traveling. Got divorced and and remarried to a retired Air Force member and have been married 35 years.
We moved up here about 25 years ago. Richard works as YOUR HELPFUL HARDWARE MAN at our local Ace.
About 10 years ago I decided to do something different so took up tap dancing, which I had not done since the 5th grade. Soon joined a group in Olympia called WOW, which stands for Wrinkles of Washington. You have to be at least 55 years of age, and we do 2 BIG shows a year plus "gigs" all over the area
Lots of fun and great for staying in shape!! One of our dancers(we have 18 in all) is another Sunnyside gal, Mary Tate. I am sure some of you remember her even though she was 2 years ahead of us in school.
Our 3 girls have given us 5 (all boys except one girl) grand children and they in ture have given us 5 great grand children. All boys except one girl and you can guess who get spoiled ! The range in age 1 month to 10 years. My Granddaughter and her family have been station at Fort Lewis for the past year and that is 40 miles from us so I get to see them quite a bit and enjoy them like the devil.. Her husband just got set back to Iraq for the 3 time today, so it has been a gloomy day for us
We don't travel much as I guess we got enough of that being in the service. We just putter around the house and yard during the nice months and listen and watch the rain the rest of the time
About 15 years ago started losing my hearing and it got so bad that I qualifed for a cochlear implant, and it has turned out to be wonderful. I know have a bionic ear. Being a mechanical instrument it of course has its down side, but I love it.
I am sorry that we will only be attending the Friday, but we have family 50th anniversary party on Sunday in southern Ca. and family has to come first.

46 years with the same wonderful woman plus one son, one daughter-in-law, one granddaughter, one grandson, and two cocker spaniels at all times. Graduated from Western Washington in 1964 after brief stints at YVC and the U of W. 21 years in the Sunnyside school system, 5 years in Ellensburg, 2 years in the Austin, TX., Westlake, schools, then unretired and worked for the Mabton and Grandview systems for the past 5 years. Interspersed in there was 17 years in the food business with unceremonious loss of fortunes in both attempts. Love to play golf with Bill, Jake, Ray, and Mac from the class of '59. Play with the Mrs. once in a while, too. (golf, that is) I look forward to seeing all classmates I haven't yet offended, and those I have, as well.

Life has been good to us. Virgil hired on with United Airlines in February of 1963 and retired in 1995. His last assignment before retiring was oversight of the building of the maintanance hanger here at the new airport. I told him that he had control over lots of money but I had a hard time getting spending money! :)
We have lived in Seattle, San Francisco and Denver, have led a simple life with the same address and phone number since we moved to the Denver area in 1964.
One might say that I have been a" jack of all trades and a master of none". I was involved in many things prior to 1990, when I became a full time Nanny, for a Presbyterian minister and her family. Three years later, I started with another family and worked for them until July of 2008, when their last son went away to college.
Since Virgil was employed with an airline, we were privileged to do a lot of traveling, both in the USA and abroad.
For the past six years, we have been involved in putting together a Newsletter for the retired group from United. A newsletter goes out every month to about 6000+ members.
Our grandchildren, 10 of them ranging in age from 4-24, keep us entertained and busy. There is always something happening from concerts to ball games of some kind.

In my early years (1957-1959) I enjoyed playing in a rock and roll band, joined the Air Force in 1960 and served until 1966. I worked for the Pasco School District for fourteen years (1968-1982) and operated my own contracting business from 1974-2001 (twenty seven years).
Retirement is great as I am now able to enjoy my three children and four amazing grandchildren. I can honestly say it has been a great life.

Spent nine of the "best" years of my life living in Sunnyside - Hope to return for a visit some day.
Since graduating from SHS - I have experienced a rewarding journey that has included spending my undergraduate days at Marquette University where I had an opportunity to play football and basketball - College days culminated with an Executive MBA from the University Of Michigan.
My career goal was to get into basketball coaching at the college level - Unfortunately - a military obligation (Army) sent me off in a different direction - 20+ years as a corporate executive with American Can Company & Georgia-Pacific Corporation - 20 years as an entrepreneur/business owner of a national marketing firm.
The most special part of the journey has been the privilege of sharing 40 years of my adult life with my wonderful wife Connie - We have been blessed with three terrific children - Mike - Jennifer & Mark - Jennifer has presented us with two beautiful granddaughters - Alyssa & Ava - We thank God for all of our blessings!
I would like to thank all of my classmates who have spent so much of their time organizing this Reunion - especially Bill and Juanita Gant who have always been in the middle of the planning for all the reunions over the years - Have a great 50th (Ugh) Reunion!

My career has been in construction management. In the 1970’s I worked for a contracting firm based in Bellevue WA. I was employed as a Construction Engineer and Project Engineer in the construction of Oil Refineries and Chemical Plants. In the early 1980’s I was a Project Manager at a Nuclear Generator Plant.
In 1984 I started my own mechanical contracting firm, and was there at the beginning of the semiconductor industry working for companies like Fairchild Semiconductor and National Semiconductor. We installed their chip making equipment and related high purity mechanical systems in their clean rooms or “FABS.”
By 1996 we were one of only a handful of contractors in USA qualified to perform this type of work. A large Midwestern contracting firm needed our experience to gain entry into this field of work and made me an offer I could not refuse. I retired in 1997.
Marilyn (Peck) and I have been married for 47 years. We travel extensively and spend our summer months at our home on Hood Canal and every other year our winter months in New Zealand.
Our children and grandchildren are our pride and joy. Our oldest son, Douglas, has three girls, and is the Senior Professor of Media Studies at Victoria University in Wellington New Zealand. Our daughter, Leah, has two boys and one girl, and is the Manager of Business and Finance for a local construction firm. Our youngest son James Gregory has a boy and a girl, and is a professor at Edmonds Community College.

I lived in Sunnyside from 1952 (6th grade, Wendel Phillips) until I moved to Seattle (end of 10 grade) in 1957.
I married - had 3 boys, and now have 5 Grandchildren.
My husband is retired Eastern Airlines (36 yrs) and I am a retired accountant.
Oldest boy is a Lt.Colonel - 26 years in the Marines; Have a married grandson in the Air Force; and another grandson also in the Marines. (Other 3 are too young)
I was a stay-at-home Mom for 12 years, then became a Make-up Artist for Max Factor – but travel became too extensive, so I went to work for a radio station; then with additional schooling, went into Accounting and worked as a Comptroller for most of my remaining working years.
In 1988 I began as a hobby Quilting, and have since made over 75 quilts - and still LOVING it - and ready to make more.
I became a born-again Christian in 1985 – went to BibleCollege - and have since taught many S.S. Classes, women’s groups and am pretty active in other church work, as well as the Gideon Auxiliary.
I moved from Washington to Florida in 1969 (Jacksonville, Tampa) and then to the northeast Georgia ‘Mountains’ (Clarkesville) in 1989. We have 5 acres, full of trees and a stream; where the deer, raccoons, wild turkeys, bears and other species of wildlife roam the yard. We are loving life, and can’t believe the age that we REALLY are!
